Regine keeps packing 'em at Aliw
by: Shirley Pizarro

November 18, 2005

We’ve been hearing so much about how our one true songbird Regine Velasquez has been packing Aliw Theater in all the nights of her eight-night "Reflections" series in the venue located at the CCP complex.

What’s even more staggering is that the attendance in her shows night after night is very consistent we were told, considering the many other performances, local and foreign artists notwithstanding, taking place at the same time.

It’s heartening to note how Regine, who walked the extra mile to make this series a truly memorable one, succeeded. A first-rate and world-class performer, Regine can truly hold her own in this fickle business.

She told us we should catch it because the songs in the concert repertoire were taken mainly from the generation where we both belong to. "You’ll be able to relate well, kasi panahon natin ito. Pinili talaga namin lahat ng maganda at memorable songs. You’ll enjoy it," she promised us during our one-on-one interview a couple of weeks back at Red Crab on Morato Ave. in Quezon City.

The songbird tackles songs from her all-time singing idols Barbra Streisand, Sheena Easton, Angela Bofill, Sharon Cuneta, Kuh Ledesma, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey. She also directs the shows.

Regine’s guests are Ai Ai delas Alas, Jonalyn Viray, Kim Flores and the Wyeth gifted kids sax artist Jacob Sarreal, violinists Joseph Valdes and Paulina Gutierrez, cellist Pocholo Gutierez. Musical director is Raul Mitra.

To those who have yet to see "Reflections," you have four more nights to catch (Nov. 18, 19 and Dec. 9, 10) to be a part of this momentous musical event.
