MARK BAUTISTA

He did not have to sing Ako’y Maghihintay any longer… Mark is definitely a certified member of The League.

Singing The Music of Dreams
by Den Lebantino

November 17, 2005

One story that proves that power of a dream is that of Mark Bautista. Back in Cagayan de Oro, he used to be a wedding singer, had performed with his band in bars and restaurants to give a little financial help to his family, and had even experienced singing in funerals.

To get to the second level audition of Star For A Night, his father had to ask the ship captain for Mark and his brother’s free ride from Zamboanga to Manila. The whole Philippines was witness to the inspiring story of Mark featured in Maalaala Mo Kaya. Since then, his fate has never been the same.

Placing only second to Sarah Geronimo, this Star For A Night runner-up has begun to realize what he only imagined before. His gold record first solo album under Viva Records brought us the hits Ako’y Maghihintay, Lahat Sa Buhay Ko and Baliw. Being a neophyte in the music industry, Mark only has to remind himself of his struggles and the blessings that came afterwards. His performances in concerts here and abroad have proven an effective and passionate performer in him. A recognition of his artistry from the Guillermo Mendoza Scholarship Foundation is another blessing he has to count. Beyond his singing career he could only be thankful. He even endeared himself to both TV and movie viewers as he had his stint in Sarah, The Teen Princess and Lastikman where he played the title role.

A person who knows how to look back, keep old friends and honor his family, Mark’s values and humility must be one of the reasons why good things continue to pour in. His latest album, Dream On, which carries the current radio and MTV revival hit I Need You mirrors that Mark never falters. His is nothing but a journey to reckon with, for he cares to reach the distance. He sang his way to where he is right now, and Mark is as grateful as ever. “I thank God for my voice. Ito lang kasi ang nagiging instrumento ko para abutin ang aking mga pangarap.”
