Singing The Music of Dreams
by Den Lebantino

November 17, 2005

Her appearance on stage has struck the sensibility of critics not expecting to hear a stunning performance from her.

The juvenile presence Jonalyn evokes and such that goes with her moving and powerful voice were more than enough to amaze us. Add to this asset her ability to infuse soul in her performance. It all gives justice to the moniker Soul Princess.

From her ordinary teen days with some domestic issues she came to deal with, Jonalyn has truly found a perfect venue for the spotlight to shine upon her. She had to go through the grueling requisites of her dream to get close to where Regine Velasquez is, an ultimate icon she has always admired. It had to start from an initial level to a tough final phase of Pinoy Pop Superstar audition. Then she had to defend her title for at least four weeks. Jonalyn victoriously surpassed all the challenges that led to the grand finals, from which she eventually bested seven other contenders.

Savoring the result of the dare she made, Jonalyn continues to share her distinct brand of music through her debut album On My Own under GMA Records. It includes the song Close To Where You Are, a Danny Tan composition that speaks of the fulfillment of her dream.

Caught in a stage that tremendously changed her life, Jonalyn never fails to make her passion the source of her happiness. “I feel very much fulfilled kapag nagagawa ko nang maayos ang trabaho ko, kapag naramdaman ko na maganda ang performance ko. That makes me continue to work more on what I have.”
